I am Dr. Md. Kafiul Islam, a dedicated academic and researcher with over 16 years of experience in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, with a specialization in biomedical signal processing and neural engineering. I hold a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National University of Singapore, where I focused my research on artifact characterization, detection, and removal from neural signals.
My key areas of expertise include: Neural Signal Processing, Biomedical Signal Processing, Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI), Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence, EEG/EMG/ECG Analysis, Wearable and Implantable Medical Devices.
My research interests include: EEG signal processing and classification, artifact detection and removal in neural recordings, brain-computer interface systems, biomedical instrumentation design, and healthcare applications using AI.
Throughout my career, I have been committed to bridging the gap between academia and industry. My work has led to over 60 publications, several best paper awards, and more than 16 funded research projects as Principal Investigator or Co-PI, including innovations in low-cost biomedical devices and EEG-based mental health diagnostics.
As a passionate academic, I have taught various undergraduate and graduate courses, including Digital Signal Processing, Biomedical Instrumentation, Neural Networks, and Artificial Intelligence. I believe in fostering an interactive learning environment where students engage critically with real-world problems. My teaching philosophy emphasises experiential learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and student-led innovation.
I am particularly excited about ExpertGate’s mission to reinvest 50% of its profits into educational programs for underprivileged communities.
