My consulting and research expertise spans internal and international labour migration; labour recruitment processes and modern slavery (including OLR systems); returnee reintegration; migration, remittances, and inequality; skills development (TVET) for employment; forced displacement and Rohingya refugee issues; irregular migration, human smuggling, and trafficking; labour rights in the RMG sector; women’s empowerment; and climate-induced migration and urban resettlement.
I have published extensively in national and international platforms, contributing books, journal articles, and policy reports on migration, labour governance, and refugee protection.

Mohammad Jalal Uddin Sikder is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science and Sociology at North South University (NSU), Bangladesh. Sikder has over 25 years of empirical research, 13 years of teaching, and 10 years of professional experience as a Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning Expert with the European Commission, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in Bonn, the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO)/Department for International Development (DFID)-UK, the British Council, Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), International Labor Organization (ILO), International Organization for Migration (IOM), US Committee for Refugees, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), NORC at the University of Chicago and Solidarity Center-Sri Lanka. His research interests include labor migration, modern slavery and recruitment, returnee reintegration, forced migration, Rohingya refugee issues, irregular migration and trafficking, labor rights and women’s empowerment in the RMG sector, and climate-induced migration and urban resettlement.
He has authored books and scholarly articles published by reputable international publishers and collaborated with the University of Sussex, UK on migration research. Sikder was a recipient of the NTS-Asia Research Fellowship from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He has presented his research at conferences and workshops across Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Nepal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Spain, South Africa, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Switzerland, the Philippines, and the United States.
He serves on the Executive Committee of Asian Ethnicity (Taylor & Francis) and is a Guest Editor for Frontiers in Human Dynamics. He reviews for journals including Asian and Pacific Migration Journal (Sage), Comparative Migration Studies (Springer), Journal of Borderland Studies (Taylor & Francis), Journal of Immigration and Refugee Studies (Taylor & Francis) and Migration and Development (Sage). Sikder regularly appears on television talk shows and writes for national newspapers, offering insights on migration, refugee affairs, and political issues.
