Ass. Prof. Dr. Philip Kofi Adom is a dedicated academic and accomplished researcher with over a decade of experience in applied energy and environmental economics, policy design, and sustainable development. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, where he focused on sustainable energy systems in Africa. His academic and research journey reflects a strong commitment to addressing real-world challenges through data-driven analysis and collaborative solutions.
His areas of expertise span a wide range of disciplines, including the economics of energy, evaluation of energy projects, productivity and efficiency analysis, technical and financial assessment of energy systems, and the economics of climate change and low-carbon transitions. He also brings deep knowledge in modeling energy demand and pricing, renewable energy economics, applied econometric modeling, macro and microeconomic analysis of environmental issues, and agricultural development economics.
Dr. Adom’s research interests cover both emerging and critical domains, such as the modeling of energy demand and supply, the role of institutions in sustainable energy systems, energy poverty and the renewable energy nexus, energy demand forecasting, energy pricing, gender-energy equity, welfare impacts of energy projects, and the intersection of energy, environment, and development. He has also explored the connections between agricultural technology, productivity, and household welfare.
Throughout his career, Dr. Adom has successfully bridged the gap between academia and practice. He has collaborated with globally recognized organizations including the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Centre for Global Development (USA), the Public Utility Regulation Authority of Ghana, the International Development Research Centre (IDRC, Canada), UNICEF, and the SiDA Environment for Development Inclusive Green Economy (EfD, IGE) program. His consultancy work has supported impactful projects, such as the Malagarasi 47 MW hydroelectric project in Tanzania, and has contributed to significant policy and infrastructure developments across Africa.
As a passionate academic, he has taught a diverse array of courses such as natural resource economics, environmental policy, energy economics, environmental finance, applied time series, and panel data econometrics. His teaching philosophy is rooted in interactive learning, collaborative projects, and the development of critical thinking skills. He is also committed to character development and preparing students for leadership roles in academia, government, and industry.
