Associate Professor Behzad Elahifar is a seasoned and Senior Drilling Engineer with extensive expertise in both academic research and practical drilling operations. His work focuses on the digitalization and automation of drilling, particularly in optimising Plug and Abandonment (P&A) processes. Dr. Elahifar's research spans several advanced areas, including the digitalization of well planning, the real-time detection and prediction of downhole issues, and the application of bismuth alloys in P&A operations. He is also deeply involved in advancing automated drilling sequences and integrating innovative drilling technologies, such as Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD), Control Mud Level (CML), and Managed Pressure Cementing (MPC). His unique combination of industry experience and academic research makes him a leading figure in the field of drilling engineering.
His academic background includes a Ph.D. in Drilling Engineering from the University of Leoben (Austria), an MEng in Petroleum Well Engineering from Curtin University of Technology (Australia), and a BSc in Drilling Engineering from the Petroleum University of Technology.
With a professional career spanning both industry and academia, Dr. Elahifar has contributed to significant projects in companies such as Enhanced Drilling Company and National Oil Well Varco (NOV), and has been an Associate Professor at NTNU, focusing on cutting-edge research and teaching the next generation of engineers.
